NY Gov. Extends Commercial Eviction Hold Through Oct. 20 (September 21, 2020)

Guy Yedwab, board president of the League of Independent Theater, a group of small theater venues, accused the governor of "playing chicken."

Hosts League of Independent Theater and Indiespace billed it as a “Small Venue Rent Forgiveness Town Hall,” with LIT organizer Guy Yedwab speaking in front of a banner that read “#CancelRent,” and some in-depth discussion of current state bills that would “forgive” commercial tenants (such as theaters) from paying their rent during the crisis.

Without Rent Relief, 60 Percent of NYC’s Independent Theaters May Close for Good (September 1, 2020)

In response, on September 1, the League of Independent Theater is calling for those who fall under these categories to inundate social media with stories about these struggles in an effort to convince elected officials to cancel rent for the month of September and beyond. If not, the League of Independent Theater projects, 60 percent of theaters in New York City will close by the end of 2020 if the city doesn’t act decisively in order to provide rent relief.
